When children feel repeatedly threatened, it jeopardizes their healthy physical, emotional, relational, and cognitive development. Professionals who work with children have known for decades that, to thrive, children need safe relationships and environments. Polyvagal theory provides insights into the impact of safety, threat, and connection on the developing nervous system and can guide interventions to become even more effective. |
